Construction Products Regulation: Declarations of Performance for NSHEVs

The harmonised European Standard EN 12101-2:2003 governs the performance of Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilators (NSHEVs) under the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR) 2024/3110.

While revisions to the standard may be expected in the future, EN 12101-2 remains the valid reference for the development of Declarations of Performance (DoP) for NSHEVs.

The Importance of Declarations of Performance

The Declaration of Performance (DoP) is a mandatory document that provides information on the performance of the construction product.

The Declarations of Performance support engineers, architects, building designers and contractors to make informed design choices when planning and designing a building.

For NSHEVs, the DoP includes parameters such as:

  • Aerodynamic Free Area: Defines the effective ventilation area for smoke extraction.
  • Reliability: Demonstrates the durability of the NSHEV through repeated opening and closing cycles.
  • Snow Load Resistance: Ensures the NSHEV functions properly even under snow accumulation.
  • Wind Load Resistance: Confirms the NSHEV can withstand wind pressure without failure.
  • Reaction to Fire: Specifies the fire performance of materials used in the NSHEV.
  • Low Ambient Temperature: Validates the NSHEV’s operational capability in extreme cold conditions.
